A common issue with the Land Rover Discovery Sport (L550) is key fob failure after the vehicle battery goes flat or is jump started. Here are three DIY fixes to try before calling for professional help.

Why Does This Happen?

When the vehicle battery dies or is disconnected, the PEPS (Passive Entry Passive Start) system can lose synchronisation with your key fobs. The keys themselves are usually fine - they just need to be re-synced.

Fix 1: Manual Re-Sync

  1. Stand next to the driver's door with key in hand
  2. Hold the key against the door handle sensor area
  3. Press the lock button on the key 3 times quickly
  4. Try to unlock and start the vehicle

Fix 2: Emergency Blade Start

If the key fob buttons aren't being detected:

  1. Press the metal release button on your key
  2. Remove the emergency blade
  3. Use the blade to manually unlock the driver's door
  4. Place the key fob in the backup reader location (cup holder area)
  5. Press the start button while holding the fob against the reader

Fix 3: Battery Isolation Reset

  1. Disconnect the vehicle battery for 30 minutes
  2. Reconnect the battery
  3. Within 30 seconds, press unlock on your key fob 5 times
  4. Try starting the vehicle

Still Not Working?

If none of these fixes work, the key likely needs professional re-programming. This requires JLR diagnostic equipment. Contact Lock50 / JLR Key Genie for assistance.

We provide mobile service across UK, USA partners, and worldwide post-in key programming.
